Abstract
Sunday is a busiest day for majority of Ghanaian migrants living in Italy. They dress in a festal mood, in traditional and modern cloths and hurry to immigrants churches. Some blend longer distances to reach these places, often located at the outskirts of the towns. There, they border fellow Ghanaians and spend several hours singing, dancing, teaching and praying. It is on that point that industrious Christianity and worship begin for a lot of Ghanaians who never unspoiled Christianity seriously while they were in Ghana. Newcomers hurry to these places. They take alive(p) roles and freely surrender to be baptised and initiated into these churches. It is there that they wanton contacts and seek information about accommodation, resident permits, and jobs. Indeed, what goes on there has imprints and influence on the daily activities of the migrants as they seek to oblige into a racially and culturally diverse world.
These churches are not built upon any doctrinal or ideological motivation, exactly they respond to the migrants quest for identity, a place to be at home and spiritual satisfaction (Adogame, 2003; Manu, 2005). Most of their members were Catholics, Protestants, Pentecostals and non-Christians prior to migration. In these churches, we find them teaming up to establish a Pentecostal/ charismatic Church or an immigrant Catholic Church.
In this paper therefore, we shall, fence in with empirical evidence, that the migrant churches, in spite of the apparent segregationist character, provide an opportunity for the migrants to achieve social integration in Italy. To achieve that goal, we shall analyse the nature, organisational structure, composition and activities of the Ghanaian immigrant churches in the responsibility of Vicenza (Italy).
